Dame Benita (Benny) Refson talks about her passion for helping children and young people deal with their emotions and how this led to the formation of Place2Be, a UK charity focused on better mental health for children.
We talk about her father’s influence on her career, time spent as runner at the famous Vogue fashion house and then her decision to retrain as a counsellor. Benny wanted to set up a charity and was determined to help children who had experienced trauma to manage their feelings before it affected their future aspirations. We also talk leadership, COVID-19 and the Grenfell Tower disaster - her charity was based nearby and responded to the disaster.
Place2Be provides mental health counselling support and training to schools to improve the emotional wellbeing of pupils, families, teacher’s and staff.
